Intro to Hockey
Welcome to Red Wing Hockey for the 2026 - 2027 season!
Registration is a 3 step process:
1. Register your player with USA Hockey. This is required every season. (Click on the link below)
2. Register your player on this site. Click on the link to the right (scroll to bottom when using mobile website).
3. Come to the Kick Off Party at the Prairie Island Arena on September 13th, 2026 from 3pm - 5pm for additional information and season packets.
Ages
2026-27 Age Charts and Participation Levels
Intros / Youth 6U / Mini-Mite (Born on or after June 1, 2019 to October 31st, 2021)
Youth typically ages 5 (by October 31st) & 6. (Sometimes called 6U / Mini-Mites) The program at this age level focuses on teaching the basics of hockey skills. It is geared towards skaters who may have some previous skating experience and no hockey experience. Depending upon the age a skater starts, they may sign up for Intros for two or more years in a row.
For youth under 5 years old, it is encouraged they sign up for Intro to Skating through Community Education to gain the ability to at minimum stand and move on their own on skates. If the skater is under 5 years old and has skating/hockey experience or abilities, registration for Red Wing Hockey will be considered on a case by case basis. Practices
The Intros program focuses on teaching the basics of skating and hockey skills. Skaters will learn how to stand up, move about on the ice, hold a stick, and make stick on puck contact.
Practices will be for 1 hour at a time on 1 day of the weekend.
Jerseys & Equipment
- Jerseys are provided.
- RWAHA strives to offer rental equipment for all players who need it. Supplies are limited. A $100 deposit is required prior to the beginning of the season. The deposit can be paid upon registering online, collected at the Kickoff Party or an equipment rental pickup date. All deposits minus the usage fee will be refunded at the end of the season upon turning in all rental equipment in satisfactory condition.

Additional Volunteer Requirements / Costs
*First & Second year Intros are required to complete 6 volunteer (DIBS) hours per skater. Please see the Resources/Volunteer page for additional information.
*Fundraising program(s): Intros and first year hockey players are not required to participate but we could sure use your help!
- (RWAHA may have at least 1 fundraising program for the season. Available programs are being explored and specific details will be provided prior to the registration deadline.)
